Desserts by Jackie Robinson
For the majority of us, baking is no easy task. But for Jackie Robinson, the owner of Dessert by Jackie Robinson, baking desserts and pastries has become a piece of CAKE!
From early on, Jackie showed her interest in baking by experimenting in the kitchen with chocolate chip cookies, pastries, and other baked goods. Being a former student of the local Oakmont High School, Jackie says that although she tried out many electives, she “didn’t love anything.” Even after graduating high school and attending Sierra College, Jackie did not find any subject that she truly resonated with. That is, until she made the decision to pursue culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu. Not only this, but she even went on to receive a degree in their patisserie and baking program! After this impactful experience, Jackie states that “she loved every day of going to school”.
Initially working as a pastry chef in one of her favorite Sacramento bakeries, Jackie discovered that baking was an outlet for her to showcase her creativity. From planning and implementing the baking process to seeing the delight on her customers’ faces, Jackie LOVED baking. However, after the coronavirus pandemic caused her to be laid off, Jackie knew she needed to adapt to the demands of the foodservice industry. Most importantly, she was NOT going to give up her passion that easily. And with this idea in mind, Dessert by Jackie Robinson was born in June of 2020.
When asked about what she thinks is the most important part of her business, Jackie says that spreading happiness through her desserts is her goal. Besides customer satisfaction, the care and quality put into her desserts is incredible! Experimenting with seasonal ingredients and implementing creaming methods for her cakes, Jackie’s dedication to her business is obvious. Not only that, but gluten-free and vegan desserts are also available upon request!
With her business beginning amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Jackie, along with many other business owners, is struggling to make her presence known within the community. This business, being her way to pay bills, is extremely important to Jackie’s livelihood. As of right now, Jackie is working on obtaining a license as a home baker in order to continue this new pathway for long-term. Her desserts, usually sought after by moms and individuals desiring birthday cakes, are still available in a pre-order system for deliveries and pick-ups.
