This ring is made of Ivory Westy and blue maple burl, hand crafted on a lathe. The blue maple burl refers to the thick blue liner. A burl is a wood disformation that creates unique patterns. In this case, the disformed maple wood was dyed blue. The off-white surrounding is Ivory Westy, a.k.a ivory colored micarta. Micarta is the name for composites of linen, canvas, paper, fiberglass, or carbon fiber, pressed together in a resin. Micarta was created by George Westinghouse of Westinghouse Electric Company, hence the name "Westy." To get the smooth texture, the ring was coated, sanded, and polished.
